Terava Ka'anapu Casey a.k.a Te Reo Ura

While striving to honor her Kanaka 'Ōiwi and Pa'umotu heritages, Terava Ka'anapu Casey is an independent researcher specializing in Tahitian History, Hawaiian History, and the history of the broader Pacific Islands region. Her current Ph.D. research focuses on the historical migrations of Mā'ohi, the indigenous peoples of French Polynesia, and indigenous history telling as a platform to reclaiming past narratives that have been obscured or otherwise forgotten.


Casey holds a B.A. in Political Science (2008) with a minor in French and Pacific Islands Studies, an M.A. in Pacific Islands Studies (2016), and is currently finishing her doctorate in Pacific Islands History (A.B.D. as of Spring 2021). To round out her academic courses of study in the Ph.D. History program, Casey has also completed Comprehensive Exams in Hawaiian History, European Intellectual History, and World History as additional fields of expertise in 2020. Additionally, Casey holds years of extensive archival research experience as well as community research experience through her background work in diverse immigrant communities in Hawai'i nei.


She and her husband have 4 children and reside in Ko'olauloa, O'ahu.
